The Unique – Algarve Cooperative Winery and the Municipality of Lagoa sign, next Wednesday, November 14, at 6:30 pm, a protocol of cooperation that aims to make official the donation of the archives and bibliographic collection of the former cooperative wineries of Lagoa and Lagos.
The Sole has inherited this heritage since 2008, at which time the incorporation that gave rise to the Adega Cooperativa do Algarve took place. The archival material resulting from this merger constitutes an invaluable heritage, not only for the memory of the municipality of Lagoa and the Algarve region, but also of great relevance for the knowledge of the history of Portuguese wine production in the second half of the twentieth century.
In addition to documentary assets, Única owns a vast array of winemaking equipment, from machinery and agricultural implements to wine bottles and spirits from its production. This is a set of objects related to this economic activity, which served as a basis for the work of these wineries and which are of significant patrimonial value in the field of industrial archeology, obsolete, in the face of technological developments and manufacturing processes, but in a reasonable state of conservation. It is important, therefore, to make it known to the lagoons and visitors of the county in a museological course to be created in the own premises of the Winery.
A team of experts from the local authority will be responsible for the integral safeguarding of this heritage (documentary treatment, packaging, organization and dissemination), facilitating its study by researchers, and its knowledge by all interested citizens. This bet will create a new dynamics in the economic and communicational action of the winery, opening the offer that the cooperative provides to its customers and general public by potentiating the best of the wines it produces, keeping alive the region's wine tradition.
The moment will be sealed with a good toast to the sound of the Algarve Jazz Orchestra.
