More than 500 people gathered to think together how to promote political, technical and academic participation in the Municipalities belonging to the Portuguese Association of Educative Cities (AICE).
For four days, from May 15 to 18, at the Arade Congress Center, Parchal in Lagoa, the vast program of this 8th Congress of Portuguese Educating Cities was developed.
"The technical staff of the municipalities can not be only technical performers, but they must also be thinking", says the organization. On the part of politicians there must be openness to accept their proposals. "To the citizens we ask for more participation", challenges the autarchy, adding that "together we will be more and more daring in the construction of a work that not only sees but also feels". This statement was part of the welcome speech with which Francisco Martins, Mayor of Lagoa, welcomed all the congressmen.
Marina Canales, General Secretary of the International Association of Educating Cities, addressed the congress by highlighting the central theme of this meeting "Creating (in) City", which highlights the role of arts in contemporary cities.
The University of Algarve's rector, Paulo Águas, underlined the availability and involvement of the main academy of this region in the process of demanding and multifaceted construction of our territories.
