Lagos continues initiative to leave “Books at the door”

Created at the end of January in a context of confinement due to the pandemic crisis, the initiative of the Municipal Library of Lagos Júlio Dantas took hundreds of books and audiovisual materials to the safety and comfort of the residents of Lacobrigenses. «Given its success, even with the library open doors», the municipality of Lagos decided to extend the “Books at the door – The taste of the book at home” initiative, throughout the month of April. To promote weekend readings, the Friday hours of the Municipal Library will also be extended until 6 pm.

Since its implementation in January, this initiative to promote reading and culture in a period when the population was forced to confine due to the worsening of the epidemiological situation, the team of the Municipal Library delivered about 730 books, reaching 208 readers. The initiative also allowed 14 more people to join the network of readers of this cultural equipment.

The municipality of Lagos and the Library decided to maintain the initiative during the month of April. However, since, according to the current Deconfination Plan, the Library and Reading Centers have reopened since March 15th, the delivery of audiovisual material books (DVD's and CD's) will be limited to one day a week. (Thursday).

The library team will continue to publish a daily “Menu of the Day” on their Facebook page so that it is possible to choose the books delivered using safety and hygiene measures. The date, time and place will be agreed between the reader and the library, and the use of a mask by the reader is required.
