Lagos Council awards 95 scholarships

Odemira awards 74,800 euros in scholarships

The Lacobrigense municipality will award, in the current year, a total of 95 scholarships to students from the municipality who attend higher education. There are 24 more scholarships compared to the previous academic year and a financial charge that amounts to 228 thousand euros.

As provided for Municipal Regulation for the attribution of Education Awards and Scholarships, the municipality opened, once again, the annual tender for the granting of financial support, having received 122 applications.

By the criterion of per capita income (considered up to the value of the IAS – Social Support Index), which has no maximum limit on the number of candidates admitted to contemplate, this year 80 students will receive scholarships. Add another 15 students considered in the mixed criterion, which assesses the economic situation in conjunction with school merit.

The regulation provides for the allocation of ten mixed criteria grants, but also the possibility of this number being expanded by council decision. At the jury's proposal, the municipality decided, at the last chamber meeting, to increase from 10 to 15 the number of scholarships to be awarded, considering candidates with a per capita income between 1 and 1.5 of the IAS value and with grades from 15 values.

The monthly fee for the current academic year is € 240 and will be paid for ten months. This is support for students and their families, which is especially important given the adverse economic and social situation brought about by the pandemic.

According to the most recent version of the Regulation, students residing in the municipality area who enter or attend public, private or cooperative higher education establishments, duly approved, are supported in courses with study cycles leading to qualification levels 5, 6 and 7 of the National Qualification Framework, corresponding to the courses of: Higher Technical Professional and similar (level 5); Degree (level 6); Masters and Integrated Masters (both level 7).
