At the last meeting of the municipal executive in Lacobrigense, the final proposal of the “Study of Planning for the Practice of Self-Caravanning in the Municipality of Lagos”, a guiding instrument, based on criteria of a technical and scientific nature, which will support the municipality in the planning, management and qualification of this tourist activity, with regard to the analysis and decision regarding the installation of new infrastructures for this practice, whether these are of initiative public or private initiative.
The document, now approved, «is the culmination of a work that began with a survey, characterization and diagnosis work and, in a second phase, the identification of the territorial potential for the practice of motorhome, which takes into account the need to safeguard the heritage, natural and landscape values, the sustainable use of resources, as well as the perspectives and interests of social and economic development of the municipality », explains the chamber.
The study predicts that the territorial potential for the practice of caravanning (caravans and motorhomes) will increase by 50% in the next ten years, that is, that it may grow from the current 800 places for overnight stays of motorhomes up to about 1200 places, considering the capacity total of the four defined planning units: Cidade, Litoral, Barrocal and Serra. The order letter also allows the assessment of the areas with the greatest potential for the location of Camping and Caravan Parks (PCC) and Motorhome Service Areas (ASA), classifying them in four classes: Priority, Opportunity, Negotiable and Critical.
Regarding the types of infrastructures to be created, with regard to the PCCs, these may be related to the themes “Sun and Sea”, “Eco resorts” and “Rural Camping Parks”, aiming to allow the combination of caravanning with other activities in rural environment and natural, such as agribusiness, wine tourism, fishing, hiking, cycling, among others. Asa, on the other hand, may be “Urban”, “Cultural and natural heritage”, and “Rural”, depending on the context of insertion. It is also allowed to define “Parking Spaces” corresponding to areas of passage without a stay (commercial areas, fuel pumps / service stations; picnic parks, among others) where parking spaces are made available and identified, with, eventually, some support services.
«Combating the illegal and wild practices of caravanning and motor-caravanning, minimizing its harmful effects, and maximizing the advantages and benefits that the orderly growth of this modality can generate for the strengthening of local and regional tourism, are the main objectives of this study, the which intends to position Lagos as one of the most sustainable and inclusive tourist destinations in the national context », adds the Lacobrigense Chamber.
The strategy calls for the modernization and qualification of the existing offer and the definition of parameters on the minimum requirements and services to be included in the reception structures to be created, as well as the ordering of the practice through the issuing of specific guidelines for circulation, road traffic and parking. motorhomes, supported by a communication model that includes the reinforcement of directional and informative signage and an effective road signage.
The definitive deactivation of the ASA located next to the Municipal Stadium, the ban on the circulation of motorhomes on the narrowest roads and in the historic center of the city, and the creation of infrastructure (ASA) in the surroundings of the main rural population centers, are some of the concrete measures to be taken. to implement.
