Between June 30 and July 4, 2021, the city of Lagos will host one of the five stages of next year's GC32 Racing Tour sailing calendar, a high-performance catamaran circuit.
The Lacobrigense bay will once again host one of the most important regattas in the world, similar to 2018 and 2019, when it established itself as “one of the main places for major sailing events”, says the organization of the circuit.
The test of high performance catamarans, 10 meters long by 6 meters wide and capable of reaching speeds of 40 knots, brings to the Algarve up to ten international teams from distant places, such as Australia and the United States.
The Mayor of Lagos, Hugo Pereira, considered the announcement of the new season of the GC32 Racing Tour circuit as “good news” for the Algarve municipality.
“While we try to mitigate the impact of the pandemic on our community and ensure that the local economy is not badly affected, we need to launch initiatives that help restore normalcy, promote our city as a destination and welcome those who visit us . The GC32 Racing Tour “family” has always left a very positive mark in our city and we are sure that Lagos and the event organization will make everyone feel at home ”, stressed the mayor, quoted by the circuit's organizer.
In addition to Lagos, the circuit will pass through France and Italy (two events). The location of the decisive race in October or November 2021 has yet to be determined.
