Largest junior tournament in Europe made 97 promises in Algarve

The year 2019 ended with the largest winter junior tournament in Europe, at Laranjal Golf Course, Quinta do Lago, Loulé, with 97 participants from 11 different nationalities, between 8 and 20 years old.

In the Under-21 category, Justin Chan (Malaysia) and Calvin Holmes (Portugal) stood out, competing for Quinta do Lago, who drew after three laps and fought for the win in a thrilling hole 9 playoff.

In the women's U21 event, Sara Gouveia (Portugal) came in first, Maia Samuelson (Sweden), runner-up, and Sofia Sá (Portugal), as Best Amateur Player of 2019 – all also competing for Quinta do Lago.

Both events allowed young golfers to qualify for the World Amateur Golf Rankings.

To include younger golfers, the competition also covered the younger training categories as follows: Under-16 – Jamie Mann (Scotland); under-14 – Kostka Horno (Spain, competing for Quinta do Lago); under-12 – Charlie Croker (England); under-10 – Maria Afonso and Francisco Reis (Portugal, competing for Quinta do Lago).

The Algarve Ricardo Melo Gouveia, professional golfer of the European Challenge Tour, attended and exchanged experiences with young golfers.
