Catarina Costa (-48 kg) from the Academic, Joana Diogo (-52 kg) and Jorge Fernandes (-73kg), both from the Coimbra Judo Club, are part of the largest Portuguese entourage ever in a world championship. Portugal takes 18 judokas (the maximum allowed by the International Judo Federation) to the World Championship – Tokyo 2019, which takes place from 25 August to 1 September.
In the presentation, which took place in the auditorium of the Multipurpose of Odivelas, the Brazilian Jorge Fernandes, president of the Portuguese Judo Federation, withdrew pressure: “We hope that the athletes give their maximum, as they have done so far. The vacancies were all filled, no one else can go. These athletes are here on merit. We just want them to do their best, we federation will be with them until the end, whether it's good or bad. ”
