The 2019-2020 school year is set to begin in three weeks from 10 to 13 September, and the promised reinforcement of an additional 1,000 staff by the Ministry of Education earlier this year has not yet reached schools, reports the Jornal de Notícias, This Wednesday, August 21st.
The president of the National Association of Grouping Directors and Public Schools, Filinto Lima, told the same publication that the binding contests will not be concluded until October, one month after the start of classes. The Ministry of Education admitted that 60 schools have not yet started the hiring procedure.
Filinto Lima reveals that the process is delayed and that the tests of knowledge and psychological evaluation are being scheduled for the beginning of September.
Tiago Brandão Rodrigues promised a reinforcement of 1,067 operational assistants to the schools, and in February they even classified this reinforcement as “unprecedented”, something that the National Association of Grouping and Public Schools Directors and the Federation of Public Service Workers Unions and Social consider “insufficient”.
