It was a weekend with several medals, and national titles, for Coimbra in the U-20 and U-18 National Athletics Championships. Highlighted were Lurdes Oliveira, from the Recreativo Eirense Group (GRE) and Rogério Amaral, from the Popular Center of Workers of Sobral de Ceira (CPTSC – Athletics Section), who became national under-20 champions.
The Portuguese Athletics Federation (FPA) organized, on Saturday, the U-18 National Championships and on Sunday the national U-20 competition took place.
Lurdes Oliveira, only 16 years old (still a juvenile), achieved in Pombal two national titles in the discipline of long jump. On Saturday, with the mark of 5, 57 meters, he won the national under-18 title and on Sunday, with a jump of 5.65 meters, he took 1st place in the under-20 race.
The GRE athlete, in addition to winning both races, also finished in 4th place the 300 meters of the National under-18, after completing the course in 42.05 seconds.
Rogério Sobral, from CPT Sobral de Ceira, “gave” another title to athletics in Coimbra this Sunday. In Pombal, in the 3000 meters race, the young man ran to the highest place on the podium, having completed the course in 8: 23.40 minutes.
“The results correspond to the work done by the clubs, by the District Athletics Association of Coimbra (ADAC) and by the Chamber of Coimbra. Lurdes and Rogério are to be congratulated for raising the level of athletics in Coimbra. We hope that in September they, and all athletes in the district, will already be able to use the new track of the Cidade de Coimbra Stadium ”, praised, in statements to DIÁRIO AS BEIRAS, the vice-president of the municipality of Coimbra, Carlos Cidade.
