A 76-year-old Frenchman died today, following a maritime incident, when the sailboat he was crashed on the rocks between two beaches in the municipality of Vila do Bispo was shipwrecked.
According to the National Maritime Authority, the alert was given at 6:50 am, informing of the existence of a shipwreck, and immediately sent to the site means of the lifeguard station of Sagres, the lifeboat «SR33 »And a water jet, as well as, by land, agents of the Local Command of the Lagos Maritime Police.
The French flagged sailboat, about 10 meters long, suffered a maritime accident, hitting the rocks between Zavial beach and Furnas beach.
The boat suffered major structural damage, in a sinking situation, located in an area where access by land or sea was not possible.
The incident resulted in a 76-year-old French man who was retrieved from the water by the water jet operator and transferred to the SR33 lifeboat, where resuscitation maneuvers were started.
The man was transported to the Rescue Station in Sagres, where he continued his resuscitation maneuvers by INEM and Bombeiros teams from Vila do Bispo, but without success, and was declared dead on the spot.
