The exhibition «Sombras e Outros Cores», by farense artist Manuel Baptista, will be on display at the Municipal Museum of Faro between October 3 and November 22, in an organization of Artadentro.
This exhibition opens the fourth cycle of contemporary art promoted by Artadentro, known as «Eklektikós», with a program scheduled until July 2021.
The title «Sombras e Outros Cores» – the name of the exhibition recently presented at the Arpad Szenes / Vieira da Silva Foundation – both refers to the formal constants of Manuel Baptista's work, and metaphorically refers to aspects of another order, present in his artistic production.
“In this exhibition, we can admire the mastery of how it combines its formal vocabulary of lines, shapes / stains, the color and the very roughness of the paper, in a poetic construction in successive layers of happy and pure sensitivity”, says Artadentro.
Manuel Baptista (born in Faro, 1936), graduated from the Lisbon School of Fine Arts, where he was a teacher. He was a Gulbenkian fellow in Paris and at the Institute of High Culture in Ravenna.
He was one of the artists invited by the Portuguese section of AICA to participate in the renovation of the decoration of the café A Brasileira, in Chiado, Lisbon. Between 1990 and 2003, he directed the municipal galleries Trem and Arco, in Faro.
