Following the Covid-19 pandemic and the current state of calamity, the City Council of Portimão and the Municipal Library endeavored to find solutions that would allow the continuation of the Manuel Teixeira Gomes Literary Prize, open to the soap opera mode and launched on 10 June, Day of Portugal, Camões and the Portuguese Communities.
This cultural initiative aims to distinguish unpublished works, with the objective of stimulating literary creation, while paying tribute to the writer-President of the Republic, born in Portimão and patron of the Prize, whose life and work are closely linked to the Rio Arade and the Algarve.
The contest entries, up to a maximum of 100 pages, must be unpublished and written in Portuguese, being submitted in PDF on the online platform until 23:59 on August 14.
After the decision of the competition jury, made up of three individuals of recognized merit, the award-winning soap opera will be officially released during the next month of December, within the scope of the celebrations of the Day of the City of Portimão.
300 copies of the winning work will be edited, to which is added a monetary prize, in the amount of one thousand euros, for the respective author.
