Diego Armando Maradona said on Monday that CONMEBOL should declare Boca Juniors to be the winner of the Copa Libertadores of America.
Idol at Bombonera, after two passes for Boca (1981-82 and 1995-97), Maradona spoke about the final controversy, in his account in the Instragram. The second-leg match between Boca Juniors and River Plate was suspended after River fans attacked Boca's bus a few hours before the game.
"I hope CONMEBOL will play a serious role and declare Boca Juniors to be the champion of the Libertadores," Maradona wrote.
Boca Juniors asked the confederation to declare the club a champion for not being able to play the second-leg game because of injuries suffered by players who were hit by glass shrapnel. The team bus was stoned in the surroundings of the Monumental stadium.
"I like to win on the pitch, but when you do not respect the rules you have to have a punishment. And that punishment is to declare the champion Boca," added Maradona.
