“The President of the Republic will not authorize or authorize the use of his image by any candidate or candidate for the upcoming elections,” says a statement by the head of state published on the Presidency of the Republic's website.
The clarification came after PSD deputy Cristóvão Norte presented on the social network Twitter a leaflet with the list of socialist candidates from Coimbra, whose head of the list is the current Minister of Health, Marta Temido.
In addition to the photographs of the candidates comes an image of Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa with number two on the list, Pedro Coimbra, who is also a deputy, president of the Coimbra District Federation and president of the Penacova Municipal Assembly.

“The President's office has to make public that it rejects this gross manipulation and demands its removal. PS dominates the minor arts of politics. PS leaflet of the Coimbra circle ”, reads the message of the Social Democrat MP.
To journalists, on the sidelines of a visit to the Porto Book Fair, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa said today that he hopes that the “misuse” of his leaflet image with the candidates from the Coimbra PS for legislative elections will be withdrawn.
The head of state said he did not authorize “no candidate” to use his image in an election campaign.
"As you know, I take pictures with millions of Portuguese and Portuguese, but that's one thing, something else is one, some or any of these Portuguese candidates use this for campaign purposes," he said.
Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa said that he had just “dictated to the Presidency of the Republic a very simple thing which is, the President of the Republic has not authorized, nor authorized, nor will he authorize any candidate to use his image in the election campaign, only” .
The head of state added that, with this position, he hopes to remove the “misuse” of his image.
