Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa states that “stability is something that is built every day” – Jornal Económico

Speaking to journalists at the Cold Greenhouse in Lisbon, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa argued that there is a rush in the results, the formation of the Government and the subsequent presentation and approval of the State Budget 2020, “for the Portuguese to know exactly the lines along which will sew ”next year.

“The Portuguese want the results to be quickly ascertained, the Government appointed, take office, present the first Budget and start the new legislature in full. That is what they want. They voted, they want to see the result of the vote as soon as possible, ”he said.

Asked if the absence of any written agreement between the PS and the parties on his left could bring instability, the head of state referred to his previous statements that this is not an essential factor: “Do you know my position on this matter. It has been defined for a long time. ”

In September 2018, the President of the Republic stated that it does not “seem essential to him” to have a written agreement for the formation of the Government, when he was interviewed by journalist and commentator Daniel Oliveira in the podcast “Ask no offense”.

In January of this year, in an interview with Lusa, on the occasion of the three years of his election, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa confirmed this position: “It strikes me that there is a need for written agreement to guarantee the duration of the legislature” .
