From December 1st to January 8th, the magic and spirit of Christmas invades the streets of Albufeira, providing residents and visitors with the best of Christmas traditions. The municipality opens its doors to concerts, shows, theater, grocery stores, exhibitions, cribs and sports activities, which are spread all over the county.
The highlight once again is Snowland, the magical land that turns Largo do Municio into an amusement park, which this year promises to be the liveliest ever. Will be 42 days with activities for all
The holiday season is approaching and Albufeira is now preparing to celebrate the court with its residents and welcome the thousands of tourists who visit the county during the Christmas and New Year festivities.
The streets of the four parishes are already strictly decorated, since December 1st, with 630 arches and ornaments of various Christmas motifs, over a length of 19 kilometers. Highlight for the giant Christmas tree, 23 meters high, located in Fisherman's Square. The Christmas lights, made up of 51 million LED lights, will be on until Kings Day, January 6.
The program runs until January 8, leading to various county venues, concerts, grocery stores, cribs, shows, races, parades and a host of activities and fun included in the Snowland – Snow Land event, which this year brings news . The opening of the event is scheduled for the 7th, at 10h00, with an Ice Parade, which brings to Albufeira the best known representatives of the polar world, among them a very special guest who, at this time of year, leaves those stops to light up the homes of the world.
The highlight goes to the Natural Ice Rink, which promises even more fun! Until December 24, Snowland is open to the public on weekdays from 3 pm to 8 pm, and on weekends and holidays from 10 am to 8 pm.
The Painter Samora Barros Art Gallery receives, at this time of year, the usual exhibition of “Recycled Christmas Ornaments”, organized by the school public and users of the Albufeira Homes and Centers, with the aim of raising awareness of the importance of reuse of materials, applied to the creation of traditional Christmas decorations, using the technique of 3R ́s – Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. The show will be open from December 4 to 31, and can be visited from Monday to Saturday, from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm and from 1:30 pm to 5:30 pm.
In the parish of Guia, Christmas begins on December 6 with the Street Nativity Scene, composed of 30 large figures representing various historical scenes associated with the birth of Jesus: the Annunciation of the Angel to Mary, the Nativity, characters like the King Herod and the Magi, among other figures that usually populate the Christmas cribs. Authored by sculptor Toin Adams, a British artist resident in the Algarve for over a decade, this exhibition can be visited until January 6, between the Nossa Senhora da Guia Chapel and the Mother Church.
