The MED Festival was again distinguished at the Iberian Festival Awards, and on the night of October 17, it collected two more awards from these prestigious awards: Best Lusophone and Hispanic Festival in the Iberian Peninsula, and Best Tourist Promotion, in the context of Portuguese music festivals.
For the first time held in an online format, due to the restrictions imposed by the pandemic situation, the Iberian Festival Awards this Saturday marked its 5th edition, initially scheduled for the month of March, and as usual, the MED Festival is part of the list of winners.
Of the 500 bands that have already stepped into MED, a high percentage have a repertoire in Portuguese or in Castilian.
Lusophony has been present, not only through national projects, but also by artists from Brazil like Tom Zé, Curva da Cintura or Marcelo D2, and PALOPs, of which Bonga, Lura or Os Tubarões are part.
The presence of Hispanic artists, originally from Spain or Latin America, has been a bet to attract the Spanish public. Outstanding artists from the musical panorama of the neighboring country, such as Ojos de Brujo, Macaco or Concha Buica, or internationally recognized names in Latin American music, such as Buena Vista Social Club (Cuba) or Bajofondo Tango Club (Argentina) have already stepped on MED stage.
For the second time, the MED Festival wins the prize for Best Tourism Promotion, but this time as a national winner, with the Spanish “Festival Jardins Pedralbes” winning in the Iberian context.
In a municipality where tourism plays a decisive role for the local economy, MED has established itself over the years, as an important means of attracting and disseminating the territory. Foreigners already represent a third of the Festival's audience and a significant part of the visitors return the following year. This fact led to this event being chosen to integrate the restricted “Portuguese Music Festivals” platform.
Since the Iberian Festival Awards started, the MED Festival has always been nominated in several categories, having already won the award for Best Medium-sized Festival (2017 and 2018), Best Tourism Promotion in Portugal (2018) and Best Contribution to the Sustainability (2019). In this edition he was a finalist in 10 categories, this being the year in which he achieved the highest number of appearances in the grand final.
“We are very happy with these distinctions, especially in an atypical year, in which unfortunately we were unable to share with our audience all the joys that this event offers us, both in artistic terms and with regard to the conviviality of all who come to our city. experiencing unique experiences and moments ”, refers to the organization.
As for the next year's edition, he added: “Once again the awards given by the organization of the Iberian Festival Awards are the recognition of the work, dedication and competence of all the municipal employees that collaborate in the realization of the MED Festival, a vast deserving team that, in 2021, will again give us what is best done in the world of music, to the satisfaction of our ever demanding audience ”.
It should be noted that, according to those responsible for the event, next year's edition will be organized taking into account the conditions of the pandemic, at the time of the Festival.
