Funaná of the "Fogo Fogo" put public to dance, in a night in which last names of the musical alignment were announced.
At the Cine-Teatro Louletano, on the night of last Saturday, the MED Festival announced the complete poster of its 16th edition, which will take place from June 27 to 30, returning to its natural stage – the Historical Area of Loulé. In addition to all the bands that will go through the main stages, some news has been announced, either at the level of the bet on Cinema and Theater programming, or on environmental issues.
After being honored by "Sê-Verde" and having received an Iberian Festival Award for "Best Contribution to Sustainability" in the Iberian context, some innovations are already underway that will be introduced this year in what concerns the concern with the environment. Compactors packed with solar energy, replacement of a large part of the disposable plastic used in the gastronomic tasquinhas for biodegradable and compostable parts and the placement of dispensers for the correct deposition of beatas and chewing gum are measures that the organization will implement and that were applied for to the Environmental Fund of the Ministry of the Environment.
These actions are in addition to the Ecological Cup, introduced in 2014, which allowed the plastic to be reduced dramatically in the enclosure, to Zero Waste Movement, to photovoltaic cells (solar powered), placed in some places of restoration or to the availability of free and efficient water points.
As Carlos Carmo, councilor of the Autarchy and director of the MED Festival, emphasized, "climate action and circular economy are increasingly present in the planning of our Festival. We are on this path because there is no Planet B and we have to take care of this the best we know. "
Vítor Aleixo, one of the faces of the fight against climate change in the context of the Portuguese municipalities, also underlined the concern that is also being brought to the MED area. "We seek to innovate, in environmental issues, bringing, something new, every issue. In the last years we have tried to distinguish ourselves by circumstances of environmental nature and we have had the happiness of our work to have been recognized ", he considered.
Concerning music, 80 hours of many different sounds, 60 bands from 22 countries from the four corners of the world, 280 musicians and 10 stages (a new stage – Stage Chafariz – and change of the concept of the Castle Stage) are some data of what is expected in this issue.
"Faithful to our best tradition, we have tried to choose artists with musical proposals that are able to meet the variety of tastes that the world music festivals always have," said Vítor Aleixo.
Dobro Sound System (Portugal), who make a fuss wherever they go with their sets filled with Balkan foliage, and DJ Burumtuma (Guiné-Bissau), which mixes Guinean sounds with African house music, are the last two names announced of musical alignment which will also feature on the main stages with Marcelo D2 (Brazil), Mellow Mood (Italy), Marinah (Spain), The Turbans (Bulgaria / Israel / Iran / Greece / Turkey / United Kingdom), Kel Assouf , Orpheus Mendoza (United States / Mexico), Anthony Joseph (Trinidad and Tobago), Moonlight Benjamin (Haiti), Dino D'Santiago (Portugal / Cape Verde), Tshegue (Congo / France), Selma Uamusse Gisela João (Portugal), Dead Combo (Portugal), Devil in the Cross (Portugal), Cais do Sodré Funk Connection (Portugal), Camané and Mário Laginha (Portugal), Gato Preto (Ghana / Mozambique / Portugal), Omiri , Márcia (Portugal), Ricardo Ribeiro (Portugal), Elisa Rodrigues (Portugal), Júlio Pereira (Portugal) , Ruben Monteiro (Portugal), Luís Galrito with João Afonso (Portugal), DJ Riot (Portugal), Eneida Marta (Cape Verde), Francisco, El Hombre (Brazil), Os Tubarões (Cape Verde), Baba Zula Los de Abajo – (Mexico) and Dhafer Youssef (Tunisia).
But since this is a multicultural event in which there are various artistic manifestations, there is much to see, hear and feel in Loulé during the realization of the MED: gastronomy, street animation, the performance of folkloric ranches, exhibitions, Off MED (partnership with Bafo de Baco), a conference promoted with the support of APORFEST, theater programmed by the House of Culture of Loulé or Cinema MED, curated by Rui Tendinha.
To whet the appetite of all the MED Festival followers who were in this presentation, Fire Fire gave a concert that took the Cine-Theater to the red and put the spectators to dance to the sound of the funaná and the music of African dance. This project that has stirred with uncontrollable energy the Lisbon dancefloors are the first confirmation of the 2020 edition of the MED Festival.
