MED Festival participates in international competitions

In an atypical year, when the pandemic made it impossible for several initiatives to be carried out in person, many organizations opted for the virtual format to carry out their events. In this context, Festival MED keeps its participation in events dedicated to World Music, as is the case of WOMEX and EXIB Música – Expo Ibero-Americana de Música, but this year in a digital dimension.

From 29 to 31 October, Setúbal is the stage of EXIB Música, in a special edition since it is a virtual challenge to overcome the restrictions imposed by COVID-19. With the theme "Tom of the Future", this event will feature showcases by Ibero-American artists, forums for the exchange of ideas, training and networking actions for professionals, all in digital format. The artistic director of the MED Festival, Paulo Silva, is one of the guests at the event and will be part of a discussion platform on Iberian and Latin American musical reality and sustainable musical cities. Programmers from countries such as Argentina, the United Kingdom, Canada, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Mexico, Finland, among others, participate in this initiative. Representing our country, in addition to the MED Festival, there will also be the Bons Sons Festival, in the person of its programmer, Miguel Atalaia.

It should be noted that EXIB is a strategic platform for the creation and development of culturally sustainable projects. It is an organization product of ten years of experience in the development of cultural projects, which connects creators, promoters, organizations and cities.

Meanwhile, from October 21st to 25th, another edition of WOMEX took place, this year in a digital version. The MED Festival was once again present in what is the largest music fair in the world, bringing together components from fairs, conferences, films and showcases, in a meeting of more than 2,500 professionals in the sector.

“We continue to invest in participation in these international platforms aimed mainly at professionals in this world music industry, as we believe that it is through these networks of contacts and the exchange of experiences that we can further improve the artistic quality of this musical event, each edition, reinforcing its presence in the itinerary of European world music festivals ", says the Mayor of Loulé, Vítor Aleixo.

It is recalled that, on the 17th, MED was distinguished at the Iberian Festival Awards, in the categories of Best Lusophone and Hispanic Festival in the Iberian Peninsula, and Best Tourism Promotion, in the context of Portuguese music festivals.
