80 hours of music, 60 bands / more than 280 musicians, 22 nationalities, 10 stages, 22 nationalities …
The 16 th edition of the MED Festival, World Music Festival, which will be held from June 27 to 30 in the historic center of Loulé was presented at the Tourism of the Algarve on the BTL – Lisbon Tourism Exchange, and several novelties were revealed. Carlos Carmo, councilor of the Loulé City Council and Director of the Festival, revealed the details also stating that MED is going to be an Iberian and European reference.
At the musical level, MED presents two premieres, being for the first time in Loulé, artists from Trinidad and Tobago and Haiti, respectively Anthony Joseph and Moonlight Benjamin. Also confirmed is the presence of Tshegue (Congo / France), Orkesta Mendoza (USA / Mexico), Selma Uamusse (Mozambique / Portugal), Kel Assouf (Nigeria / Belgium) and the Portuguese Cais do Sodré Funk Connection.
Another novelty on the MED 2019 poster is Dino d'Santiago, a natural artist from Quarteira, who was present at the MED 2019 Festival presentation.
"This festival is very dear to me, every year I'm there, participating with other artists, but this year I'm really 100% playing my songs. It's my festival of choice. I hope for a long time the MED continues to raise the best of the culture ", said Dino d'Santiago.
Over the next few months, other names will be revealed to make up the 60 bands / more than 280 announced musicians that will perform in the 10 stages installed in the historical center of Loulé, which in total will play 80 hours of music of 22 nationalities.
MED 2019 has as main novelty, the change from the stage of the Alcaidaria do Castelo to the D. Afonso III square, also known as the fountain's width, on the outside of the wall.
Environmental Certification Event "Be Green"
The recent achievement of the "Contribution to Sustainability" award in the latest edition of the Iberian Festival Awards further strengthens the organization's commitment – Loulé City Council – aligned with the Adaptation to Climate Change Strategy. Introduced in 2014, the Ecological Cup contributes to the withdrawal of about one tonne of plastic per night, which has a significant impact not only on the environment, but also on waste collection and costs.
"The MED is a pride for Loulé and it is already an anchor event, also from the environmental point of view", Pedro Pimpão, deputy mayor of Loulé, illustrated the event.
Another novelty is the fact that the Festival MED 2019 appeals to the lovers of the seventh art, "Cinema MED", whose initiative will be curated by the critic Rui Tendinha and will bring to Loulé, exhibited in the castle, the world cinema, especially the film "Gabriel and the Mountain "(Brazil).
