MEDFEST project launches challenge to present experiences of gastronomic tourism - Jornal diariOnline Região Sul


The MEDFEST Project, which unites eight southern European countries in the valuation of gastronomic tourism based on the Mediterranean cultural heritage, has announced the launch of the 2nd Challenge «Where is …? The best of the Mediterranean! '

Until April 21, applications are open to capture new sustainable gastronomic experiences, an innovative / creative service or an activity linked to the cultural and gastronomic heritage of the Mediterranean lifestyle, which can be presented by companies and entities.

The objective of the challenge "Where is …? The Best of the Mediterranean! »Is to identify, map and promote exemplary projects and good practices of sustainable gastronomic tourism experiences in the MED Lisbon and Tagus Valley, Alentejo and Algarve regions.

If selected, these experiences will integrate the national cooperation network Mediterranean Diet Route and the international MEDFEST network.

The selection process runs from April 22 to 28. The announcement of the four selected winners and remaining will be revealed on April 30.

"This is another step in creating sustainable gastronomic destinations in Portugal and the Mediterranean," explains Artur Gregório, project coordinator of Associação In Loco, the Portuguese association whose mission is to affirm the Mediterranean diet as a destination for sustainable gastronomic tourism of international level and the organization in network of the best experiences of gastronomic tourism, reinforcing the territorial cohesion.

"It is also a way to create new tourist spots that escape the seasonality and dynamize the interior of the country, rehabilitating knowledge and traditions that are heritage," added the leader.
