THE Basketball Association of Coimbra (ABC), in partnership with Agrarian School of Coimbra (ESAC), organizes next Friday, the 6th, the V Seminar on Nutrition, Sports and Health which has a show of organic products.
The initiative, aimed at "alerting to the very serious problem of childhood obesity and other issues related to public health," explained the president of ABC, Luis Santarino, begins at 14:00 and lasts until 17:00.
"It represents yet another effort to alert the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health that students have to eat well in schools, that food is not an expense but an investment," he said. "If we invest in prevention we reduce the cost of treatment and the burden on the National Health System," he concluded.
Link between science
and the community
For Luís Santarino, it is "very important" that the event happens at ESAC. "This is where the students and the teachers are, that the investigation of the food sciences is done and this allows us to connect with the sport, with our young people and with the families", said the person in charge yesterday in the presentation of the seminar .
João Noronha, president of ESAC, said that the challenge launched by ABC falls within the scope of the master's curriculum in Biological Agriculture and Biotechnology. In this sense, and in a complementary way, will be presented a sample of biological products, some of which are produced in the school itself.
