The Minister of Education, Tiago Brandão Rodrigues, accompanied yesterday, Monday, 8, the return to school in person during a visit to the municipality of São Brás de Alportel.
The government official had the opportunity to check on how support is being given to children of essential workers, support for children who attend structured teaching units and also the work of the social school cafeteria.
The visit took place at the EB1 / JI School of São Brás de Alportel, which, in this municipality, is functioning as a reception school for children of workers considered essential, students from pre-school to the 2nd cycle and is also one of the two schools integrated into the School Social Dining Program, which support the most vulnerable children and families, in partnership with the municipality's Social Services and the municipality's Social Network.
The functioning was explained to the minister by the students themselves and by the professionals who are guaranteeing this support.
From the moments of digitally synchronized teaching to the asynchronous moments for carrying out tasks autonomously, there was still time to address the operation, in the municipality, of projects that promote access to computer material, in which the municipality has collaborated, through a “Significant investment” since the beginning of the pandemic, in the order of 40,000 thousand euros, in the acquisition of computer equipment, having also counted on the community's solidary participation.
The return to school at a distance in this second confinement has been prepared through a long-term partnership between the municipality and the group, seeking to “make the most of resources and multiply the best synergies, to support students, families, the school and the whole community. education in this demanding challenge ”.
Accompanied by the Mayor of São Brás de Alportel, Vitor Guerreiro, the director of the José Belchior Viegas School Group, Nídia Amaro, and the president of the Association of Parents of the School Group, Marta Rodrigues, Tiago Brandão Rodrigues had the pleasure of visiting also the school cafeteria, where a system of production and distribution of school social meals is currently set up, on a take-away basis or even home delivery, when necessary, aimed at students benefiting from school social action brackets. , as well as other children, young people and their families, referred by the Municipal Social Services. Every day about 150 meals reach the homes of those most in need.
“Knowing that we can only go back [às aulas presenciais] safely and when sanitary conditions permit, it is important to see what happened here today, ”said the Minister of Education.
Praising the joint effort that teachers, education assistants, students and parents are making in this return to school at a distance, the government official made a “clearly positive balance” of the return to non-classroom classes.
