The 1 December Moncarapacho Philharmonic Band celebrates its 156th anniversary on December 1, with a concert in the municipal auditorium of Olhão, starting at 9:30 p.m.
The centenary band from Olhanense, governed by Luís Pisco Rodrigues, receives on the stage, as a guest, the group Cante Andarilho.
The 1 December Moncarapacho Philharmonic Band, in the municipality of Olhão, was founded in 1862 by the parish priest of the parish, Prior Simas, with the name it has today, although it is presumed that its existence is even earlier.
Over time, this group had its ups and downs and in 1943, due to a situation of internal conflict, the band was forced to stop its activity for 15 years.
The musicians, dissatisfied with the situation, organized to reactivate the band and obtained their attempts, returning the same to take to the street on December 1, 1958.
For more than a hundred and thirty years, he has participated in many festivities and in all kinds of cultural events, such as pilgrimages, processions, concerts or band meetings, highlighting the presence in 1940 of the Great Exhibition of the Portuguese World and in 1960, on the 1st. National Contest of Civil Bands in Lisbon.
On June 16, 2012, she was awarded the Gold Medal of Merit by the Municipality of Olhão, in recognition of the activities carried out in the cultural field throughout her life.
The traditional music group Cante Andrarilho, from São Brás de Alportel, includes in its repertoire subjects such as "Bird in the Cage", "Until God willing", "Cantiga Bailada", "Rosa Albardeira", "Tito do Bicho Papão" or "Dancing, Polishing."
The members of Cante Andarilho, who work in various parts of the country, dedicate themselves to the collection, study, preservation and dissemination of traditional Portuguese music.
