The Municipality of Vila Real de Santo António has already begun work on the requalification of the sea front of Monte Gordo, which will renovate the gardens and green spaces of the bathing area.
The work is divided into two stages: the first involves the cleaning of the ground and the demolition of the existing masonry structures, while the second one contemplates the construction of the gardens, revitalizing the space.
The contract will last for approximately four months and is expected to be completed by the end of September.
The project envisages the installation of two demarcated green zones, which will be complemented by interior paths and the planting of new trees and other plant species adapted to the Mediterranean climate.
Thus, next to the casino, a central square will be created, with two green perimeters, destined for the stay, from which four paths are developed to the surrounding areas, namely Avenida Infante D. Henrique, casino and parking lots.
In the second zone of intervention, the source of the casino, the project provides a semicircular praceta, with green zones, which will give access to the avenue and the lateral car parks.
Since the work will only take place in front of the sea, the commercial establishments will not be affected and will be able to maintain the normal operation.
Likewise, all access to the beach of Monte Gordo beach will remain fully accessible, since the work will only focus on the gardens and adjacent areas.
These works complement the intervention already carried out in the beach, in the last two years, which endowed the beach with a pedestrian walkway with more than 2 kilometers of extension and allowed the renovation of all the restaurants and beach supports.
