The funeral service of the Spanish soprano Montserrat Caballé will take place at the Cathedral of Barcelona on November 17, accompanied by the Orchestra and the Gran Teatre del Liceu Choir to perform Verdi's "Requiem."
Organized by the soprano family, the ceremony, scheduled for 1:00 pm (less an hour in Lisbon), has the support of the Teatre del Liceu, according to a statement from the institution.
Ainhoa Arteta, Maite Beaumont, Nikolai Schukoff and Alexander Vinogradov will be present at the ceremony, which will be open to all citizens on a first-come, first-served basis.
Gran Teatre del Liceu – where so often the diva sang – will open on this day the doors to show live the mass and the concert, by TVE, which will broadcast throughout Spain.
To gain access to the theater, the public can purchase tickets for free on November 12 on the internet.
The soprano Montserrat Caballé died on October 6, at the age of 85, at the Sant Pau Hospital in Barcelona, where she had been hospitalized since September.
The Gran Teatre del Liceu will also hold an international tribute to the soprano next spring, with the support of the great theaters from around the world where Montserrat Caballé sang throughout his career.
