Jorge Viegas is the new president of the International Motorcycle Federation after having received 79 votes in 101 possible at the annual general assembly of the FIM that took place in Andorra. This is the first time that a Portuguese man holds such a position.
ACTIB – Águeda Action Club – was represented at the highest level with Albano Melo, Jorge Silva and Pedro Rachinhas, as Jorge Viegas has been a strong supporter of the motocross world championships in Águeda.
With a long association with the world motorcycle body, Jorge Vegas held various positions at the institution and was president of the FIM Promotion Commission in 1992 before assuming the vice-presidency of the FIM in several periods between 1996 and 2014. It was also in several member of the board and currently is one of the members of the TAD (Arbitral Tribunal of Sport) in Portugal as well as member of the Olympic Committee of Portugal.
Jorge Viegas succeeds Venezuelan Vito Ippolito to be the 13th president of the maximum institution of world motorcycling.
