On December 8, at 6:00 p.m., the Museum of Portimão inaugurated an exhibition held in conjunction with the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation – "Lugares Viagens Viagens", which, through its "Gulbenkian Itinerant" project, began in partnership with five national institutions in a dynamic model, developed in favor of cultural development, the dissemination of its collections precisely in Portimão.
It is in an artistic, aesthetic, cultural and geographical discourse that this initiative challenges and invites the discovery of new and unforeseen "Trips" in which, in a timely and complementary dialogue, the works of the collections of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation join pieces belonging to the collection of the Museum of Portimão and local collectors: Gita Honwana Welch, George Welch and Álvaro Pires.
"Places Landscapes Travel", from the unprecedented cross between the visual proposals on display and stimulated by the encounter of times and spaces so different, however, has an unexpected help and the company of a very special and illustrious natural "guide" of Portimão – Manuel Teixeira Gomes. He is also a compulsive traveler and a special observer of places, people, territories and landscapes, writer of an intense and epistolary verbal and visual plasticity, a frequent visitor to museums, galleries and antique shops, an active participant in artistic and literary gatherings, in parallel with his institutional, as a diplomat and former President of the Portuguese Republic, arises in the performance of this mission.
Short quotations from his books surprise us throughout the exhibition, establishing connections, rediscovering points of contact, extending possible interpretations, in an unexpected dialogue with the works of the various authors and collections of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, the Museum of Portimão and local collectors , opposing or approaching a possible literary meaning to the plasticity of images.
The exhibition, part of the City Day Commemorations, can be visited on Tuesday from 2:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and from Wednesday to Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. On Saturdays the Museum of Portimão has free admission between 10am and 2pm.
