Author of one of the great successes of 2018, 'The Sun', Vitor Kley was recently in Portugal for the first time and is preparing to return in great. In summer, you will step on the main stage of the MEO Southwest festival.
The success in arrow was not in the plans, but the Brazilian affirms that he keeps his feet on the ground while he lives this "dream".
In conversation with the Fame By The Minute, told us the secrets of the music that took him 'beyond Brazil' and how he sees the future after the resounding success.
He was recently, and for the first time, in Portugal. Did you feel affinity with our country?
Biggest pleasure to be talking to you! Yes, I loved Portugal! I confess that made me want to spend more time there, take my family to meet and enjoy some more! Everyone treated me very well and I was delighted with everything! I was very happy to know that everyone really likes my art out there. And ah, I loved the food too!
Did you expect the theme 'The Sun' to become an international success?
Not really … I always believed in music, but I did not realize I was going that far. When I wrote 'The Sun' in 2016, I felt it was different, but it surprised me and it certainly changed my life. To be able to travel the world announcing my sound, my message, my art is a dream! And this is due a lot to 'The Sun'.
In one year, music reached 150 million views. How was this success living?
It's a dream, you know? As I said, it was the music that changed my life, the life of the whole team, the Vitor Kley family. It made me travel all over Brazil and now I can say that she's taking me to know the world. This is amazing! My grandfather once told me that faith and music move mountains, and today I believe it!
What story does the song tell? What was your inspiration?
It was 2016, I was in Balneário Camboriú, Santa Catarina, Brazil. My family lives there and we lived on the beach, surfing, enjoying the sun, the sand. One fine day I was coming back from a surfing morning and the day was half overcast. As soon as I got home I began to write a letter to the sun, talking to him: "The sun, see if you do not forget and enlighten me, I need you here …".
I really wanted him to be there that morning, that surfing morning. I wrote a portion of the letter and soon got the guitar … then came that main riff, the beginning of the song. I began to sing over the groove an excerpt from the letter I had written for the sun, and so the music came out. I recorded it in an application that I have on my mobile phone, Garage Band is the name, and for everyone I showed the music the reaction was the same, they went crazy! Thus were the first steps of 'The Sun'.
I am very grateful for all the affection of the Portuguese! I can not wait to meet you there!
In Portugal, music was on the radio tops for long weeks. How does it feel to see a people that is not your trautear a letter written by you?
I thought it was incredible when I was there. I did not think it was going to be this reception, you know. I was totally surprised! I thought too much, everybody said: Dude, this song does not stop playing! It's in everything! Very cool! I am very grateful for all the affection of the Portuguese! I can not wait to meet you there!
Do you accompany the work of our artists? Which ones?
I am very fan of a band called Expensive Soul that is from Portugal. I've been listening to their sound for a long time, and I've got a lot of their songs on my cell phone.
Would you like to do a duet with some Portuguese singer?
So, I want to learn and know more about Portuguese music culture. It would be too much to record with someone else! I was going to be very happy! Expensive Soul is one of the hottest bands out there! It would be awesome to make a sound with them!
In the summer he will perform on the main stage of one of the biggest festivals in Portugal, MEO Sudoeste. How do you face this challenge?
Too much! I am immensely happy and I have been researching about the festival,
I saw some videos and I was delighted! I believe that the vibe, the energy of MEO Southwest has everything to do with my sound! Let's do it! I hope all the people there make us have a beautiful party!
Do you notice differences between the Portuguese and the Brazilian public?
My trip to Portugal is still very recent. I'm waiting for the first show out there to feel more closely the energy of the Portuguese public. I'm sure it's going to be awesome!
I've always had a good life. I write about what I like, I speak and I sing my truth. I let things flow
After a resounding success like 'The Sun', what tools does an artist need to reinvent himself for the next project?
I've always had a good life. I write about what I like, I speak and I sing my truth. I let things flow, you know? I'm not pushing myself to write a hit. I think the main tool is telling the truth. Speaking, writing the truth is what makes the connection between the artist and the audience. When I sit down to write something, the first thing I think is: it has to be real. With soul and heart. 'Morena' is a song that has been doing very well in Brazil, I believe she has been fulfilling this role of 'music after' The Sun 'very well. I am quite happy with the career of my career.
Public expectations are high. Do you think it will be easy to continue to surprise?
Easy I do not know, but it's going to be fun. The great thing is to enjoy the walk. Every day I write, I compose, I create … Certainly the public will have more songs, I assure you.
The universe is full of inspiration. In my head a glass of water can turn into music. I believe that everything my eyes see and my heart feel can turn into music.Where do you look for inspiration for the next work?
The universe is full of inspiration. In my head a glass of water can turn into music. I believe that everything my eyes see and my heart feel can turn into music. The art, the poetry, the sound is all over the corner. For me everything is music … I wake music and I sleep music.
Can the Portuguese public await news?
For sure! 'The Sun' is shining brightly, thank God! But I will definitely show up with more new songs, more shows out there! I loved Portugal and I really want to be able to be closer to the Portuguese public. As I said before, they welcomed me very well, with great affection and I want to reward it all with music and love!
