The internship of the National Women's Under-19 Handball Team took place in Lagoa, during this week from March 15 to 19, 2021.
Lagoa was the location chosen by the Handball Federation of Portugal for the U-19 women's internship, under the motto «Preparing the Future -2021». The selection guided by Ana Seabra focused during these days on a work program that included eight training sessions and a few hours of training under the responsibility of the main trainer. Assistant coaches Sandro Gomes and Miguel Vasconcelos, physiotherapist Celso Silva, physiologist João Mesquita and video analyzer Tiago Bernardes complete the technical team that directs this moment of sports preparation.
Among the 22 participating athletes, coming from different parts of the country, the presence of two locals, Helena Neto and Darlene Cruz, athletes from Lagoa Académico Clube, stands out. Ana Seabra declared that this was «Another opportunity to be with the best athletes of this generation, in which the majority is already integrated in senior teams and to participate in the best championships, because, despite the pandemic, at this level the teams have not stopped being to compete."
For his part, the mayor, Luís Encarnação, welcomed the choice of Lagoa, stressing: «The excellent natural conditions of the territory, the quality of sports facilities in the municipality of Lagoa and the investment of the municipality in the area of sports, understood as an enhancer for integrated development, they justify the choice of our municipality for carrying out internships, among other sporting events. We are sought after by different modalities, by different levels of competition and sports positioning, by people and institutions from different parts of the country, Europe and the world, which makes us very proud ».
