The presentation of two new projects in the field of mobility marked the commemorations of the 105th anniversary of the elevation of São Brás de Alportel to a municipality, celebrated last Saturday, June 1st.
The requalification of the southern section of Avenida da Liberdade and the construction of the new "Circular" bus terminal are two "structuring projects in the development strategy of the county, which has mobility as a central axis", reinforced the autarchy.
The reclassification of the south section of Avenida da Liberdade constitutes the 3rd phase of the overall requalification project for Largo de São Sebastião and adjacent streets after the renovation of the São Sebastião and Gago Coutinho streets.
This intervention will consolidate the strategy of valuing the public space, "giving priority to people, road safety and accessibility for all".
The architect Amélia Santos's project, developed under the Urban Action and Rehabilitation Plan (PARU), with 65% community funding, privileges road safety and pedestrian circulation, with accessible walks that continue the mobility implemented in Rua Gago Coutinho, to which is added a reorganization of the parking lot and the afforestation of the public space.
The new road terminal, designed by the architect António Correia, will have a "strategic location for the growth of São Brás de Alportel, north of the urban center".
The project, which is part of the Action Plan and Sustainable Urban Mobility for the Algarve (PAMUS), has 50% community funding and will respond to the needs of the population and promote the use of public transport, "not only through built physical infrastructure, but also through new digital solutions being prepared at regional level. "
The commemorative program had other special moments, among them the awarding of the municipal insignia of honor and the delivery of the key of the municipality to seven former municipal councilors, the municipal assembly presidents after April 25, 1974; and the attribution of the municipal insignia of value and altruism to 20 local associations that have been active for 25 years or more and also to the Portuguese Petanque Federation, the only entity of this kind based in the Algarve and in the county for more than a quarter of a century.
The agenda filled with various activities throughout the day culminated in the Republic Square with the commemorative concert, by the Angels, followed by the traditional moment of singing the congratulations and the spectacle of fireworks.
