Tavira City Council announced today that the construction of a new pedestrian and cycling bridge over the Almargem stream will advance in October, after the current passage has collapsed during the past week.
The urgent public tender was awarded to Carmo – Estruturas em Madeiras in May of this year and consigned in June.
The municipality estimates that the intervention will have an execution period of 120 days, and the material supply and dismantling preparation is currently underway.
According to the clarification note sent today by the Tavira Chamber, the assembly of the new bridge should take place between October and November.
The City Council informs that, after finding the marked deformation of the bridge, requested the diagnosis of anomalies and recommendations of intervention measures to the company CADIPRO, Consultoria e Projetos, Lda.
According to the present document, the bridge, which collapsed in the meantime, had “very poor” safety conditions in relation to the regulatory requirements laid down by law and the detected anomalies “jeopardized its full use, both in pedestrian and cyclic terms” .
The report recommended its disassembly and the construction of a new bridge.
