Classes for elementary school students, broadcast on RTP Memória during the third period, start on the 20th and will have only 30 minutes, including subjects such as physical and artistic education, the tutelage announced today.
The Ministry of Education today released the grid of the space #EstudoEmCasa, which will occupy part of the programming of RTP Memória during the third period, from 09:00 to 17:50 with classes for the 1st and 2nd cycles in the morning and for the 3rd cycle in the afternoon.
Classes for students from the 1st to the 9th grade start on April 20th, after the beginning of the third period, on the 14th, and the return of around two million students to distance learning.
With the exception of artistic education classes, which are aimed at all students, the grid is organized by schooling and the morning is reserved for classes from the 1st to the 6th year, while the contents for students from the 7th. To the 9th year are transmitted in the afternoon.
The different years are grouped in groups of two and, therefore, 1st year students will share the material with 2nd year students, similarly to 3rd and 4th year students, 5. And 6th and 7th and 8th years, with the exception of the 9th grade classes.
The program will include subjects such as Physical Education, Literature, German, French and Spanish up to 30 minutes of daily introduction to Portuguese for non-native speakers. The 1st cycle students will have thirty minutes of reading per week and for the 5th and 6th there will be a “writing workshop”.
Citizenship is transversal to all years of schooling and will be addressed in the context of several disciplines, such as Study of the Environment, History, Geography or Natural Sciences.

In a statement, the Ministry of Education explains that the issuance of #EstudoEmCasa on RTP Memória will allow reaching the majority of students, overcoming some of the constraints on access to education that have been reported by parents, teachers and school principals over the past few weeks.
At the same time, RTP 2 will also transmit content aimed at children in pre-school education.
The Government decided in March to close all schools and since March 16, distance education has been offered. At home, there are around two million children and young people who attended from day care centers to higher education establishments.
The Covid-19 pandemic has already infected about 1.6 million people in more than 200 countries and regions, causing more than 100,000 deaths.
In Portugal, which has been in a state of emergency since 19 March, there were, until 11:59 pm on Wednesday, 8, 15,472 cases of infection (279 in the Algarve and 125 in the Alentejo) and 435 deaths (eight in the Algarve region).
