NOS expands fiber optic network in investment of 87 million euros - Business

NOS announced that it invested 87 million euros, for the first quarter, in the expansion of its fiber optic network. The investment corresponds to the arrival of the signal to another 374 thousand houses, and an increase of 116 thousand services, an increase of 1.2% over the same period of last year. The operator says that the total number of services reached, in the first three months of the year, about 9.6 million.

In terms of revenues, there was a growth of 0.6% in this period, compared to the same period last year, corresponding to 385.3 million euros. According to the company, telecommunications revenues increased by 1.1% to 369.8 million euros and offset the lower performance in cinema and audiovisuals, which fell by 5% to 25.8 million euros. The company reports that the reduction of blockbusters during the period was reflected in the fall in revenues. The most successful films in these months were "Captain Marvel," "How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World," "Green Book," "Alita: Batle Angel," and "The Mule." Revenue per ticket increased from 4.9 to 5.2 euros.

During this period, EBITDA (Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization) reached 160.7 million, an increase of 2.1%, due to the increase in the number of services and the efficiency gains. Consolidated Net Profit, the first quarter reached 42.5 million euros, an increase of 21.5% compared to the same period of 2018.

NOS recorded an increase of 49.5 thousand new mobile services compared to last year, during the first quarter of the year, accounting for 4.75 million. Fixed-access television customers accounted for 1,326 million customers at the end of March, compared to 1,295 million in the same period in 2018.

The number of fixed broadband services stood at 1,387 million compared to 1,340 million a year earlier, while the number of fixed voice services reached 1,772 million, compared to 1,755 million at the end of March 2018. Network coverage fixed at the end of this period, 4.482 million houses, plus 374 thousand homes compared to the same quarter of 2018.
