The number of unemployed registered in the employment centers in the Algarve increased 202.4% in May compared to the same period of the previous year, according to data released today by the Institute of Employment and Professional Training (IEFP).
At the end of May, there were 27,675 unemployed in the region's employment services, 1,296 more than in April (+ 4.9%) and 18,522 more than in May 2019 (+ 202.4%).
In year-on-year terms, the 202.4% change is the most significant by region, followed by Lisbon and Vale do Tejo (+ 42.7%) and Alentejo (+ 32.9%).
In the country, unemployment grew 34% – 103,763 more unemployed than in May 2019, in a total of 408,934 unemployed enrolled.
To this rise, “all the groups in the unemployed file contributed, with emphasis on women, adults aged 25 or over, those enrolled for less than a year, those looking for a new job and those with qualifications secondary school ”.
