The Municipality of Olhão marks the National Week to Combat Inequalities and Poverty Eradication until Wednesday, 24, through initiatives for seniors and young people.
The initiatives "Equal Mind", "For me to be the same is …" and actions to raise awareness of equality issues take place between now and tomorrow in various areas of the city, with the aim of alerting to the risk of poverty and social exclusion .
Today, Tuesday, the 23rd, the day began with a session of mindfulness yoga at the Casa de Juventude de Olhão. About three dozen users of the community centers of the Red Cross of Olhão, Al-Hain (ACASO) and Verdades Escondidas felt the benefits of the exercises proposed by Professor Sabino Soares, with the objective of achieving physical and mental well-being.
Elsa Parreira, the councilwoman with the Social Cohesion portfolio, stressed the need to work towards "equality of inclusion and social participation".
"It is urgent to combat the inequalities that still exist, through an ever closer support of the most discriminated against in society," he said.
In a relaxed and informal environment, people who, by their age, are often the main victims of inequality and poverty, have learned the best way to breathe, essential for physical and mental well-being.
The activities planned by the municipality for tomorrow, Wednesday, starting at 2:00 pm, are held at the MOJU headquarters and are dedicated to the younger.
It is a debate with the use of group dynamics as a way to promote reflection on equality in its various dimensions.
During these two days, awareness-raising activities for equality issues are also carried out through the distribution of leaflets with the aim of alerting to domestic violence and dating or resulting from homophobia and trafficking in human beings.
