Participatory Budget of Mértola 2020 will start with meetings in the parishes

The Mértola 2020 Participatory Budget starts on January 17, with the first participatory meeting, scheduled for the Mértola Parish Council.

In the following weeks, the meetings will be held at the parishes of Alcaria Ruiva, Espírito Santo, São Domingos Mine, Santana de Cambas, Union of Parishes and São João dos Caldeireiros.

From January 20th to 27th the participatory meetings are dedicated to the youth of the county, with sessions at the S. Sebastião Basic and Secondary School and Alsud Vocational School.

The Participatory Budget of the Municipality of Mértola is an initiative that aims to “deepen the collection of citizens' contributions in the discussion and preparation of the municipal public budget”.

One of the objectives of this measure is to “consolidate the link between the municipality and its residents and, consequently, improve the quality of the local democratic process”.

In the Municipal Budget of 2020, 40 thousand and 60 thousand euros are foreseen to finance the winning proposals of OPJ and OPG.

Proposals may be submitted in the areas of education, sport and youth, public facilities and spaces, health and welfare, local economy, agriculture, forests and rural development, transport, mobility and accessibility and entrepreneurship.

The value of each proposal may not exceed the amount of 10 thousand euros for OPJ and 30 thousand euros for OPG.

The OPJ will be able to submit proposals to all citizens aged 14-29, who are native, residents, workers or students in the municipality of Mértola.

In the OPG, all citizens over 30 years old who are natural, resident or workers in the municipality of Mértola may submit proposals.

Interested parties may submit their proposal at the participatory meetings (Mértola – 17 January; Alcaria Ruiva – 18 January; Espírito Santo – 19 January; S. Domingos Mine – 1 February; Santana de Cambas – 2 February; Parish Union – 8 February ; São João dos Caldeireiros – 9 February) or on the project's official website from 20 January to 20 February 2020.

The proposals will be voted in May.
