Following the meeting with the PS, Jerónimo de Sousa, leader of the PCP, stressed that there is currently a “distinct political conjuncture of 2015” since four years ago a written agreement was required from the President of the Republic. Jerónimo de Sousa stressed that this is not the case and there is no obstacle to the formation of a socialist government.
“The PCP has its own program” to ensure economic development and as in 2015, “the PS knows this program,” said Jerónimo de Sousa.
The Secretary-General of the PS today defended that there is a distinct political framework compared to 2015, which respects the option of the CFP not to require written government agreement and that it will treat left-wing partners without preference.
“We respect parties who understand that it is useful to have written agreement [Bloco de Esquerda] and also parties that understand that it is not useful to have written agreement [PCP]. We will not preferentially work with any of the parties we have contacts with today, ”said Antonio Costa at the end of an hour and a half at the PCP headquarters.
Antonia Costa welcomed that, until now, no political force (Free, PAN, ENP and CFP) "closed the door" to the formation of the new socialist government, argued that "there are reasons to look with confidence" at the next legislature, but warned that the current four politician is distinct from the one that was in 2015, when the "Geringonça" was formed.
“At this meeting, what was expressed by the PCP – and which we consider positive – is the willingness to make the joint assessment of the State Budget right away. Having this availability is a positive sign, ”he insisted.
