The Portuguese duo Pedro Fraga and Afonso Costa today qualified for the quarterfinals of the light double scull (LM2x) of the Rowing Worlds, while Dinis Costa will play the skiff recap (LM1x) in Linzin Austria.
Fraga and Costa were seconds in their heat, automatically securing the next round after completing the 2,000 meters in 6,24,900 minutes, two seconds less than Polish duo Jerzy Kowalski and Artur Mikolajczewski, who finished in the second round. third position, the last one giving direct access to the 'bedrooms'.
The duo, who are seeking direct qualification for the Tokyo2020 Olympics, were just 650 thousandths from Germans Jonathan Rommelmann and Jason Osborne, who won the LM2x battery.
Dinis Costa was fifth in the skiff drums (LM1x) and will have to play the recap on Monday.
The Portuguese athlete completed the 2,000 meters in 7.32,030 minutes, being almost five seconds from third place – which gave direct clearance -, occupied by Croatian Luka Radonic.
The World Rowing Championships will run until September 1st in Linz, Austria.
