The Petanca Algarve Cup, held last Sunday in the Portimão riverside area, in the variant of male triplets and female doublets, had a record number of participants, exceeding the organization's expectations.
The competition was promoted by the Portuguese Petanca Federation, in the framework of Portimão – European City of Sport 2019, and was attended by 214 athletes, 192 men representing 64 teams from 27 clubs and 22 women from 11 teams from seven clubs.
With 42 teams from 15 clubs, the Algarve Windward and Southwest Alentejano Association had the most participants, followed by the Algarve Association with 17 teams from seven clubs and the North and Center Zones Associations, both with eight teams from six clubs.
In the men's Algarve Cup, the trio of Clube Petanca Escola de Loulé (Valério Brito, José Brito and Nelson Pereira) triumphed, followed by the Nave Cultural Sports Club (Hugo Dores, Paulo Jacinto and Vitor Peres) and the Onda Solid Arraial Association ( Hugo Rodrigues, Tiago Brito and Antoine Sousa).
In females, the Vale da Telha Pétanca Association (Laura Manhãs and Tânia Malta) won the Algarve Cup, followed by Estorãos Petanca Club (Isabel Pereira and Lurdes Castro), Nave Cultural Sports Club (Isa Magalhães and Ingride Carmo) and the Petanca das Taipas Club (Joaquina Silva and Rosário Correia).
In the Portimão City Cup, in men, the Quarteirense Sports and Recreation Club triumphed (José Rosa, Carlos Duarte and José Guerreiro). The podium was completed with the Petanca de Faro Club (Alexandre Romeiro, António Viegas and Rodrigo Brás) and Bensafrim Sports Star (Jorge Pacheco, Joaquim Pinheiro and Ricardo Carrasquinha), while the Shared Compass Association (Antero Conceição, José Campino and Manuel Pereira) was ranked 4th.
Clube Petanca Escola de Loulé (Sónia Gonçalves and Natércia Cruz) won the Portimão City Cup in females, followed by Machados Cultural Sports Group (Ana Rosária and Idalina Dias), Nave Cultural Sports Club (Almerinda Magalhães and Suzel Duarte) and the Vale da Telha Pétanca Association (Leonor Marreiros and Maria Clara Rosa).
