During Science19, the president of the Foundation for Science and Technology had already announced that the number of doctoral scholarships would be extended to 1,800 to 1,900, but the official announcement is made today at the University of Beira Interior, in Covilhã , in a session attended by the Minister of Planning, Nelson de Souza, the Secretary of State for Science, Technology and Higher Education, João Sobrinho Teixeira, and the Secretary of State for Regional Development, Maria do Céu Albuquerque.
It is through a partnership between the two ministries, Planning and Science, Technology and Higher Education that funding was obtained to significantly increase the number of scholarships, which last year were 1,500 and now reach "around 1,900."
According to the data shared, this number doubles the number of new grants supported annually compared to 2015, when only 957 scholarships were supported. But it recovers the maximum number that had been reached in 2009.
The fellowships are intended to support researchers who wish to develop research work to obtain a doctoral degree and are funded through the Foundation for Science and Technology, also taking advantage of the current framework for reprogramming the Regional Operational Programs of Portugal 2020.
