The Judiciary Police reported today that the investigation into the Monchique fire, which occurred in August last year, led to the conclusion that there was no malicious human action at the origin of the fire.
"It is possible to conclude that there is no human willful action at the origin of the fire," PJ said in a statement.
According to the police force, the cause of the fire was determined and is clarified, "both by the investigative measures developed and by the conclusions of the Scientific Police Laboratory of the Judiciary Police."
Speaking to TSF, PJ deputy national director Carlos Farinha said that the causes may be related to EDP's electricity lines.
Investigations continue under the current proceedings, under the supervision of the competent Public Prosecutor's Office, and it is estimated that their conclusion may occur in the short term, adds the PJ.
The fire that broke out on August 3 in Monchique was extended to three more counties – Odemira, Silves and Portimão -, consuming more than 27,000 hectares.
