The traditional dances and arraiais will be part of the tour of the Popular Saints in the municipality of Castro Marim in June, an already ingrained tradition that, on June 12, will also include the beginning of the 20th edition of the Masts Competition.
The sardines and the roasted chorizo, the scent of rosemary and basil, fado castiço and popular music, are indispensable landmarks of this Portuguese tradition, together with the popular marches, which result from the work and dedication of the various local associations of the municipality who, every year, are committed and committed to this dynamic.
The Masts Competition ends on June 23, the eve of the municipal holiday and night of the traditional Arraial de São João, in the 1st of May square in Castro Marim.
During the dances that precede the camp, a jury evaluates the work of collectivities, considering above all the traditional aspects, the originality and the imagination in the blocks allusive to the Popular Saints.
The XX Masts Competition is an organization of the Municipality of Castro Marim and counts with the collaboration of local associations and clubs: Cultural Association "Amendoeiras em Flor", Social Association of the Parish of Odeleite, ARCDAA – Recreational, Cultural and Sports Association of Friends of Alta Mora, Campesino Recreativo Futebol Clube, House of the Town of Azinhal, Club of Junqueira, Sport and Cultural Group of Rio Seco, Brotherhood of the Immaculate Heart of Maria, Clube da Junqueira and "Mito Algarvio" – Association of Accordionists of the Algarve.
