From 6 to 8 September, the European City of Sport 2019 is also the international capital of rhythmic gymnastics, with 250 athletes representing 24 athletes.

Spectators can watch a high-level sporting spectacle, immediately ensured by performances by gymnasts such as former world champion Aleksandra Soldatova from Russia, Alexandra Agiurgiuculese from Italy, Sumira Kita from Japan or Anastasiia Salos from Belarus. Already in the 13 participating teams, highlighting some of the main selections today, such as Italy, Japan, Belarus and Spain.
Also the presence of the Portuguese Laura Sales and Margarida Ferreira, who, competing at home, will have the support of the public. Admission is free by municipal decision, taking into account the roots that this Olympic discipline has in the municipality and the fact that Portimão is European City of Sport in 2019.
According to João Paulo Rocha, president of the Portuguese Gymnastics Federation (FGP), “both the World Cup and the 28th International Portimão Tournament, which preceded it these days, are the most structuring events for the sport in our country, because many of the best gymnasts of recent times came here early in their careers and inspired Portuguese athletes ».

«It was something that had not happened since 1993, when the cast of participating nations was
much smaller; are very encouraging signs, reinforced by the fact that we can take
four gymnasts to the next World Cup, which qualifies for the Olympic Games ».
On Sunday, the day of the finals, the competition starts at 15h00 and interleaves the individual strand with the groups, with the protocol ceremonies scheduled for 18h45, followed by the gala and the official closing.
Organized by the Portuguese Gymnastics Federation, Portimão City Council and
Portimão Tourism Association, this event predates the World Championship, which will take place between 16 and 22 September in Baku, Azerbaijan.
