Portimão receives flag from Sport-Friendly Municipalities

Award distinguishes serious and in-depth work that continued to be done in Portimão throughout 2020

The mayor of Portimão, Isilda Gomes, received on Wednesday morning, February 24, the two national awards with which the MAD 2020 program – Municipalities Friends of Sport recognizes the good practices of the municipality in the area of sports management, as well as as the respective flag.

The trophies now delivered are the result of applications made by the municipality of Portimão to contests promoted by the online platform Social City, in the areas of Digital Presence and Intervention Covid-19, both related to sports.

In terms of Covid-19 Intervention in 2020, Portimão was in 2nd place in the Top 3 of the municipalities from 50,000 to 100,000 inhabitants, between Felgueiras and Torres Vedras, while, in the Presença Digital do Esporte, Portimão led the municipalities table last year in the same numerical range of inhabitants, just ahead of Vila do Conde and Paredes, who closed the podium.

The municipality highlights that "this is the recognition of the serious and in-depth work that continued to be done in Portimão throughout 2020, despite the constraints inherent in the current pandemic, in particular at the level of exceptional support granted to the associative movement and intervention in municipal sports facilities, equipped with adequate contingency plans to face Covid-19 ".

With regard to the digital presence in sport, between March and November, measures were taken to ensure that informal users continue to maintain the pace of their physical activity classes, especially with the use of online recording and transmission through the municipality's social networks.
