Yesterday, EKZ and Smartenergy laid the first stone for the Morgado de Arge Photovoltaic Power Plant (Cotovio), which they are going to build in Portimão, in an event attended by the Assistant Secretary of State for Energy and João Galamba and the Mayor. Municipality of Portimão, Isilda Gomes.
The plant will occupy an area of 100 hectares and will have an annual renewable electricity production capacity of 90,495 MWh. The electricity produced there should meet the needs of a total of 7,631 homes, according to housing types and average consumption.
The estimated time for the construction of the photovoltaic plant is one year, generating employment, during this period, for more than two hundred specialized workers. In the operation phase, this plant will create two direct and permanent jobs and several indirect jobs to provide services.
The plant will host 110 thousand photovoltaic solar modules and for this reason, one of the major concerns of the company, in terms of the project, was “the mitigation and minimization of impacts on the landscape”.
«With the commissioning of the plant, the equivalent of 34,026 tons of CO2 will be avoided, thus contributing to the achievement of the goals established by Portugal in the European Commission», reveals the company responsible for the project.
