Portimonense, from the I Liga de Futebol, was eliminated today from the Portuguese Cup, after being defeated by the trip to União de Leiria (1-0), who fights two steps down, in the Championship of Portugal.
In the game of the 3rd round, which marked the debut of the Algarve in the competition, the team from Leiria recalled their times at the top level and took on the role of "giant-tippers".
A play by Rui Gomes, one of the best members of the home team, who passed by two players and shot low with the ball passing under the body of Ricardo Ferreira, defined the match, on 81 minutes.
The Algarve representation in the Portuguese Cup is only handed over to Farense, who will face CF Estrela on December 3, at Estádio José Gomes, in Amadora.
The match for the 3rd round was supposed to take place this weekend, but was postponed due to cases of Covid-19 in the Championship team of Portugal.
