Portugal won today the gold medal in women's pairs and silver in the men's groups in the finals of the World Cup of acrobatic gymnastics in Belgium, and both won the World Cup Circuit.
The women's pair formed by Rita Ferreira and Ana Rita Teixeira, from Acro Clube da Maia, reached the 28,320 points with the combined exercise, and with this result won not only the first place but the World Cup Circuit.
The men's group composed of Henrique Piqueiro, Henrique Silva, Frederico Silva and Miguel Silva, from Acro Clube da Maia, presented a combined exercise that assured them the second place on the podium, behind China, and also won the Cup Circuit victory of the world.
The women's group formed by gymnasts Bárbara Sequeira, Francisca Maia and Francisca S. Maia, also of the Acro Clube da Maia, reached the fifth place with 28,470 points, with the podium being Russia (1st) and Belgium (2nd. And 3).
Mariana Candeias, Raquel Ferreira and Madalena Cavilhas of the Ginásio Clube Português team scored 22,470 points in a combined season where they showed some flaws but showed improvements since the last World Cup.
The mixed pair Bruno Tavares and Carolina Dias, of Acro Clube da Maia, reached, with the combined exercise, the 28,010 points and obtained the fifth place. The podium was made up of Russia (1st and 2nd) and Kazakhstan (3rd).
The Portuguese gymnasts are now in the qualifying round for the European Championship which will take place in October in Holon, Israel.
