Portuguese artists donate 40 works at an auction to support Syrian students - Showbiz

According to the Global Platform for Syrian Students (APGES), an emergency syllabi program for Syrian students that is headed by former President of the Republic Jorge Sampaio, the auction will take place at 7:30 p.m.

Albuquerque Mendes, Ana Pérez-Quiroga, Bárbara Assis Pacheco, Carmo Pólvora, Fernanda Fragateiro, Graça Morais, Gracinda Candeias, Gil Heitor Cortesão, Irene Buarque, Joana Vasconcelos, João Cutileiro, Jorge Martins, Jorge Pinheiro, José Guimarães, José Loureiro, José Teófilo Duarte, Julião Sarmento, Manuel Cargaleiro, Manuel da Costa Cabral, Manuel João Vieira, Margarida Areias, Marta Wengorovius, Nikias Skapinakis, Nuno Cera, Paula Rego, Paulo Catrica and Pedro Barateiro are some of the artists who donated their works for this auction .

"With a war that has lasted for more than eight years, the lack of support for the training of Syrian youth is contributing to the creation of several lost generations of graduates, ruining their future and the country," the organization said.

He further maintains that only by creating a new generation of well-prepared future leaders will it be possible to rebuild society to "get out of the vicious circle of violence, conflict and poverty."

The works will be open to the public today, Tuesday, between 2 pm and 8 pm and on Thursday between 11 am and 8 pm.

The statement also quotes Jorge Sampaio on this initiative, which emphasizes "solidarity with the cause of the Syrian students" on the part of donor artists, and calls for public participation "with a small gesture" to make "all the difference "to change the lives of Syrian students.
